This book is about about a boy that lives in a a rundown part of a city, called the Urb, that used to be a utopia where everyone was living there everyday lives. Many years later, most of the people living there were "normal". That means that they have not been injected with mind probes. There are three different types of mind probes. There are trendies, shooters, and sexbos. These "proovs", short for genetically improved humans, are perfect and don't want to do anything with "normals". The main character, Spaz, is a "normal" who lives in the Urb and steals for a living. While he was stealing from the dwelling of an old man, the old man was waiting for him. He said that he knew he was coming and left everything of value by the door. All that was, was an alarm-clock viscreen, an old streetball mitt, and a mini stove. The old man was hiding a book near him so Spaz wondered what was in it. The old man explained that he was keeping an account of what happened in the Urb so that people in the future could read about it. The thought of the future made him shiver. He left the place with the "junk" and started to walk back to his hut when a prove crossed his path. He was unsure of what to think of the proov. The proov gave him a bag of food as "an act of charity". In reality, she probably was disgusted by Spaz but wanted to feel even more perfect than she really was. Spaz was confused so he left and went back home. What would you do if you if someone mysterious crossed you path?
